Effective human resource (HR) planning is a crucial factor in enhancing the performance of private universities. With careful planning, institutions can ensure the availability of competent personnel aligned with their strategic needs. This article reviews various HR planning strategies that can be implemented, starting from the needs analysis stage, recruitment, development, to performance evaluation. HR needs analysis is an essential initial step to identify the required quantity and competencies in accordance with the university’s vision and mission. Subsequently, the recruitment and selection process must be conducted transparently and competency-based to acquire high-quality HR capable of supporting the institution’s goals. HR development through training and continuing education is also a vital aspect to improve the workforce’s skills and adaptability to advancements in science and technology. Periodic performance evaluations help institutions measure HR effectiveness and provide a basis for decisions related to promotion, rewards, and career development. Moreover, private universities must be able to adapt to changes in both external and internal environments, such as technological progress and labor market dynamics, to remain relevant and competitive. With this structured and adaptive approach, private universities can build sustainable competitive advantages, increase productivity, and optimally realize their vision and mission amid the challenges of the digital and globalization era.
