Abstract

Health cadres are the driving force behind integrated health posts (Posyandu). One of the roles of health cadres is to provide counseling on maternal and child health. Various factors cause this role to be less than optimal, including a lack of knowledge. The purpose of this activity is to increase the knowledge of health cadres about caring for children with health problems that often occur in the community, so that cadres are able to disseminate knowledge to the community, especially groups of mothers of toddlers. The activity consisted of initial data collection on child health problems in Pagumengan Mas Karangdadap village, followed by training for health cadres on child care. The training activities were provided through lectures, questions and answers, demonstrations and redemonstrations of child care actions as well as role plays to provide education to others. The activity was carried out for 1 month in April 2025. The training participants were 15 health cadres from Pagumengan Mas village. The results of the initial assessment found that the 3 most common cases of child health problems were fever, cough, cold, and diarrhea. The results of the training showed an increase in the cadres' knowledge score about caring for children with health problems of fever, cough, cold, and diarrhea. The average initial knowledge score was 75.6 (45-95), and the average post-training knowledge score was 86 (60-100). The increased knowledge of health cadres is expected to enable them to disseminate information to other communities, enabling mothers, especially those in Pagumengan Mas village, to properly care for their children at home.
